Step 1: Review NC-SARA Requirements
First, familiarize yourself with the NC-SARA website. NC-SARA ensures that a Department of Education-recognized accrediting body accredits your institution, provides financial stability assurances, and maintains a student complaint process comparable to the onsite process available to resident students. This foundational understanding will help you throughout the application process.

Step 3: Prepare and Submit the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
- Download the MOU: Depending on your application status, either initial or renewal, download the appropriate MOU:

- Register in NC-SARA System: After receiving notice of SPE approval, the institutional representative must register in the NC-SARA System and pay national fees using the link provided in the NC-SARA email.

- Ongoing Review: All institutions participating in SARA are encouraged to continuously review the NC-SARA website and the Alabama Commission on Higher Education’s website (ache.edu) for updated student complaint information.
- NC-SARA Fees: Fees are paid directly to NC-SARA. Upon state-level approval (ASPA), NC-SARA will email the Primary Institution Contact with their institution-specific registration and payment URL.
